ABOUT

Saint Aurelius Academy is an elite residential academy situated on Vesper Island, a vast purpose-built island several miles off the Northumberland coast of England.

The Academy educates mortal and vampire students within one institution while maintaining the different schedules, residences and biological provisions required by each. Mortal students belong to Crown Court; vampire students belong to Thorn Court.

Despite that division, Saint Aurelius remains one academy. Its academic departments, libraries, dining facilities, athletics, performing arts, medical services and central grounds serve students from both Courts.

Life at Saint Aurelius is deliberately self-contained. Nearly every aspect of academic and residential life exists on Vesper Island itself.

History

The history of Saint Aurelius Academy is closely tied to Aurelius and his two sons, Caelus Crown and Noctis Thorn.

Born to different mothers and belonging to different natures, the brothers became the foundation of the Academy’s two-Court structure. Crown Court took the name of Caelus Crown; Thorn Court took the name of Noctis Thorn.

The Courts were never intended to represent opposing sides. Their purpose was balance: two distinct student bodies existing within the same institution without requiring either to abandon its nature.

That principle survives in the Academy’s oldest saying:
“The Crown must remember the Thorn.
The Thorn must remember the Crown.”

Geography & Grounds

VESPER ISLAND

Vesper Island is a large man-made island designed and constructed specifically for Saint Aurelius Academy.

Its western grounds house Crown Court, while the more heavily wooded eastern grounds house Thorn Court. The central campus connects both sides through shared academic, administrative, athletic and communal facilities.

The island contains residences, teaching buildings, libraries, medical facilities, performing-arts spaces, extensive athletic grounds, staff accommodation, coastal infrastructure and its own harbour.

The campus was planned as a complete residential environment rather than an ordinary school surrounded by a town. Students live, study, train and participate in Academy life almost entirely within Vesper Island.

SOUTH DOCKS

Access to Saint Aurelius

Routine access to Vesper Island is provided through the Academy-operated private ferry serving the South Docks.

Scheduled ferry service connects the Academy with the Northumberland mainland. The principal student crossing operates monthly, while additional journeys require Academy authorization.
Students arriving by sea enter through the South Docks, Gatehouse and Main Gate.
Emergency helicopter access is maintained for urgent medical and institutional transport.
Students may not leave Vesper Island outside approved departures, school holidays, authorised academic travel or emergencies.

The Academy’s isolation is intentional and allows Saint Aurelius to remain private, secure and largely self-contained.

The Two Courts

Mortal Court

Crown Court

Day • Scholarship • Ambition • Tradition

Crown Court is home to the Academy’s mortal students and follows the primary daytime academic schedule.

Principal Residential & Court Spaces:
Caelus House, Solarium Hall, Crown Cloister and the Crown Dormitories.

Crown is not a “good” Court and Thorn is not an “evil” Court. The Courts exist in balance rather than moral opposition.

Thorn Court is home to the Academy’s vampire students and operates primarily around the Academy’s nocturnal academic schedule.

Principal Residential & Court Spaces:
Noctis House, Vesper Hall, Thorn Cloister and the Thorn Dormitories.

Thorn Court maintains the quiet discipline, nocturnal schedule, and deep ancestral traditions required by vampire scholars.

Shared Infrastructure

Where the Courts Meet

Although Crown students primarily study during the day and Thorn students primarily study at night, the two Courts are deliberately connected through shared areas and scheduled overlap across campus.

Forms one of the principal shared central spaces connecting Crown and Thorn campus grounds.

CEREMONIAL HALL

Saint Aurelius Hall

The main administrative and ceremonial center where major institutional assemblies take place.

SCHOLARLY REPOSITORY

The Grand Library

Central repository of scholarship, housing classical volumes, archival collections and quiet study halls.

DINING HALL

The Refectory

The primary dining hall accommodating staggered schedule dining for both Courts.

Co-Educational & Shared Disciplines

Athletic Overlap

The Aurelius Athletic Grounds serve students from both Courts. Although daytime and nocturnal schedules require separate training periods for many activities, selected sports, training sessions and Academy teams include athletes from both Crown and Thorn.
